HCAA exhibit combines beauty, imagination for worthy cause
For those who believe that beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder, the evening of Nov. 3 introduced many visual riches to Hamilton County residents. It was on this night that the Hamilton County Artists’ Association proudly presented its 62nd Annual Fall Exhibition at the Hamilton East Public Library Noblesville branch, 1 Library Plaza. An evening of beauty, wonder, and imagination greeted the attendees of the art show’s grand opening.
“We had about 100 people come through tonight,” said Leroy O’Dell, one of the co-vice presidents of the Hamilton County Art Center and Birdie Gallery. “I have been attending the show for the past seven years and this is one of the better ones. There has been some really exceptional art this year.”
Formed in 1950, the HCAA was started by a group of local artists whose goal was to work together to promote their artwork through exhibitions, education and mutual support. Since then the organization has continued to pursue its mission to develop the talent of both beginning and professional artists.
Yet, for the exhibition there is still another goal. Each year, the HCAA awards two $1,000 scholarships to art students from Hamilton County high schools. The scholarships are funded by proceeds from the exhibition and subsequent auction. The artwork will remain on display in the library through Nov. 16.
“Visitors can view the art during normal library hours,” O’Dell explained and added proudly, “Last year, we had about 1,300 people come through to check out the exhibit during its run.”
It is a proud statement that stems not from arrogance, but from the arts community that comes together for such a worthy cause. It is a pride in supporting art education and artistic development in Hamilton County.
“This annual event is an important tradition for HCAA and an opportunity for us to share the talent of our Hamilton County artists with the community,” said HCAA member Robert Daugherty. “In addition to the exhibit, there will be a kids’ table with items donated by our artist members for children to purchase at affordable prices.”
